The Full form of IIT
The full form of IITs refers to Indian Institutes of Technology which are issued as Indian technical and research universities in public interest, under the Institutes of Technology Act of 1961. These institutes are of national importance, which is governed under a framework set up under the 1961 Act. The IIT council administers all the 23 autonomous IITs set up across the nation, and the Human Resource Development Minister becomes the official chairperson of this council. In the present time, IITs offer around 11,300 combined seats for all the undergraduate programs offered in all its universities.
IITs have their national importance, they are public interest technical universities that were established in the year 1956 for the post-war development in the industrial and education sector in India. The first IIT was formed in Kharagpur, then later new IITs were established in Bombay, Madras, Kanpur, Guwahati, Delhi, Roorkee, Gandhinagar, Jodhpur, Hyderabad, Indore, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Ropar, Mandi, Banaras, Tirupati, Palakkad, Dharwad, Bhilai, Goa, Jammu, and Dhanbad. The location of all these universities was chosen to scattered across the nation just to prevent any regional imbalance and provide equal opportunities to every state for industrial and educational development.
The IITs have on-campus facilities providing great residence, hostels, sports grounds, swimming pools, and different courts for several sports. The Inter Sports Meet organized every year sees several participants from different IITs competing with each other in 13 different sports for a general championship trophy. Several annual cultural fests are also organized in these universities.
