The Full form of IIIT

The Full Form of IIIT is the Indian Institutes of Information Technology which is a group of educational institutions offering courses primarily relating to the fields of information technology and computer science. The first five of these were established and are funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The rest of them were set up under the PPP or Public-Private Partnership Model.

Before the 2010s, the Indian Institutes of Information Technology in the cities of Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Kanchipuram were set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development or MHRD. Later in 2014, the IIIT Bill 2010 was passed in the Lok Sabha which granted the status of Institutes of National Importance to the four IIITs post which a 5th institute was set up by the Ministry in the city of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. This institute was also granted the INI status by the above-mentioned bill.

The admission into the institutes is conducted via the JEE Main Entrance Exam as well as the Joint Seat Allocation Authority. The courses offered by the institute are undergraduate courses in the fields of Information Technology Engineering and Computer Science Engineering. While they aren’t considered as prestigious as the IITs, they do compete with some NITs in terms of the way their degrees hold value for employers in the corporate world. This gives several students incentive to apply if they fail to clear JEE Advanced for admission to an IIT. There are several more institutes in the group that have been proposed in various states of India which will be established in the coming years.
