GTT Full Form – The Full Form of GTT in medical terms is Glucose Tolerance Test measures how a person’s body cells are able to absorb glucose after they consume a specified amount of sugar. Doctors use fasting blood sugar levels, hemoglobin A1C readings to finalize the diagnosis of type-1 and type-2 diabetes as well as to diagnose diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes).
Breakage of skin barrier can increase patient’s infection risks of other factors. Notable signs of infection are seen as swelling and redness around the puncture site, including fever. The person may also feel dizzy from not eating before the test. Some people feel it difficult to tolerate the glucose drinks, especially who have high sugar levels in their blood. Preparation for the glucose tolerance test involves the steps such as:
- Eating a normal diet for the days till up to the test.
- Consulting with the doctor about medications, if they are taking. Some medications, such as beta-blockers, corticosteroids, antidepressants, and diuretics, are bound to interfere with results.
- A need for fasting for at least eight hours before the appointed test. One might drink water, but should avoid other beverages, evencaffeinated ones, as they will interfere with results.
- Avoiding the urge to urinate just before procedure since one may need to provide urine sample as well.
