The Full form of EBV
EBV Full Form – The full form of EBV is the Epstein – Barr virus. It is the most common one of the nine kinds of human herpesvirus family, formerly termed as the Human Gamma-Herpes virus-4. It causes mononucleosis or the “kissing disease”, due to the way it spreads among individuals. EBV is not commonly known but the infection rates are usually very high since a lot of people carry it without being essentially sick or affected by it.
After successful infection, the incubation period for the virus ranges from 4 to 6 weeks to show the symptoms, which are often mild. Children will have symptoms that could be duped as a common cold or flu; however, teenagers show evident symptoms of mononucleosis. These symptoms include fever, enlarged spleen, and inflamed throat, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, lack of appetite, swollen liver, fatigue, and rashes. Sick individuals usually recover with 2 to 4 weeks with treatment but fatigue may stay for several weeks or months.
EBV usually spreads through body fluids, such as saliva or genital secretions during sexual contact. It can also get transmitted through blood transfusions and organ transplantations. EBV is contagious in nature as it can spread by touching or using materials, such as toothbrush or drinking glass, which the infected individual has used without sterilizing.
An individual carries the virus long before and also for a while after the symptoms and treatments are over for mononucleosis. During this period, even if the virus is latent in nature, it spreads and infects without any obstructions. Proper hydration, rest and prescribed medication are highly important.
