The Full form of AIDS
The full form of AIDS is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. AIDS is an advanced stage of disease generated through the infection of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in the human body. AIDS is a disease that is characterized by a combination of symptoms that arise in the same way, regularly, over time. However, all individuals who suffer from HIV infection do not have AIDS.
CD4+ T-cells have an active role in the immune system of the body. An individual is diagnosed as having AIDS when these subsets of T-cells fall below the count of 200 per cubic millimeter of the blood along with HIV infection. People suffering from AIDS have their immune system severely compromised and have tendencies to microbial attacks. Opportunistic infections or Cancer in association with HIV are also diagnosed as AIDS. The kind of infection, i.e. bacterial or viral, depends on the abundance of the forms of micro-organisms in the individual’s surroundings.
AIDS is a contagious disease. HIV is transmitted among people by cough, saliva, surfaces, blood, illicit drug needles, sexual contact (including anal and oral sex), blood transfusions, fecal-oral route, mother to fetus, breastfeeding, etc. However, by following the prescribed course of treatments, an individual can have undetectable HIV or very low count to detect in a blood test. Constant check-ups and blood tests are efficiently required because undetectable HIV does not make the person free from it. The sole reliance depends on the person being monitored constantly as well as the potentiality of the treatment itself.
