The Full form of AICTE

The Full Form of AICTE is the All India Council for Technical Education. It is the managing statutory body established in 1945. A council that manages all technical education, nationwide in India. It operates under the DHE (Department of Higher Education) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. This allows it to function as a statutory body that manages all the planning and execution of the development of technical education in India. The AICTE is also an accreditation body that accredits several postgraduate programs under various categories under its charter. The Parliament gave it a statuary status.

The AICTE is assisted by 10 other Statutory Boards of Education. They range from the UG Studies in Eng. & Tech. to the Town and Country Planning. The council has its headquarters based in New Delhi, and it holds the offices of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, as well as the Member Secretary. Moreover, it also has several regional offices in Gurgaon, Kanpur, Mumbai, and Bangalore among others. Recently on the 25th of April, 2013; the Supreme Court had announced .

As per the University Grants Commission Act, the AICTE has no authority in enforcing any sanctions on colleges that are affiliated with universities. However, it can still regulate technical colleges on an annual basis. This carried on until January 2016. The council got official approval to approve technical colleges for the session of 2016-17, as well as all future sessions.
