IICB Full Form – The full form of IICB is the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, which is an educational institution and research facility dedicated to biomedical research. It is located in Kolkata, West Bengal and was founded in 1935 under the name of IIEM or the Indian Institute of Experimental Medicine under the management of CSIR or the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. It was renamed later in 1982 as the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology and has been functioning as an autonomous research center ever since. The institute has its primary focus settled on R&D fields such as Cell Biology and Physiology, Cancer Biology and Inflammatory Disorder, Chemistry, Structural Biology, and Bioinformatics, Infectious Diseases and Immunology, and Molecular and Human Genetics.

The institute has a history of publishing several research papers annually for various scientific journals worldwide. However, it also has a negative history of falsifying research photographs. In 2019, several researchers in a team led by Elisabeth Bik, along with several independent researchers had discovered several publications by the institute which had photograph manipulation. This investigation was shocking for both CSIR and the Indian Government and caused CSIR to order a formal investigation into the matter. They have also planned to set up a committee to oversee future publications as well as draft guidelines for the present researchers here.

The institute allows researchers to join teams after completing their doctorate in a relevant field. This allows better hope for several currently incurable diseases to be cured in the foreseeable future.
